About Us

This is an exciting time to join The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with the 2022-2026 global strategy announcement at the World Health Assembly in June 2021. The Polio Team works with many partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) as well as with country governments and donors to build and implement a Polio eradication strategy. The Foundation leadership team is invested in our success, as we continue to provide updates, identify key risks, and build engagement opportunities.

We are seeking an Associate Strategy Officer (ASO) to support critical strategy projects within a matrix environment. You will develop and revise strategic areas of The Foundation by crafting, translating, and communicating high-quality data-driven analyses and key insights to internal teams and foundation partners.

This role can sit in Seattle, WA or Washington D.C. and will report to the Deputy Director, Strategy & Partnerships. On a project basis this role will also work closely with the Technology, Research & Analytics, and other Polio teams.

What you will do!

  • Support strategy development and strategic projects by partnering closely with leadership and workstream leads
  • Participate in prioritizing and crafting the overall strategy development process
  • Research and collect quality data to measure results, and make data - driven decisions
  • Provide support in project management, problem-solving, and meeting agenda on team strategy discussions
  • Enable strategic partnerships to develop and assess options, ensure sound reasoning, and challenge assumptions
  • Partner with our internal team to co-develop and test strategy concepts, and facilitate strategic change
  • Build relationships with effective communication and partner focused engagement
  • Support the implementation of creative solutions to guide group processes around managing different viewpoints and encouraging alignment
  • Provide recommendations for program areas and partners on key documents, reports, and presentations for a variety of purposes and audiences
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of research and analytical work to support resolution-making, including statistical analysis and working with third party resources to develop analytical methodologies
  • Assist in the creation of the scorecard process to measure team performance
  • Craft and launch processes and systems with data from our grants and research for key strategy and portfolio management decisions
  • Support the Strategy, Planning & Management team with planning and development of the annual strategy review process, as well as regular meetings, materials, and communications with foundation leadership (CEO & Executive Leadership Team) as well as external polio partners (Polio Oversight Board, Strategy Committee, GPEI global and country groups)
  • Creatively lead special initiatives like identifying innovative white space adjacencies

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s or other advanced degree with 3+ years of experience, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to act independently to determine methods and procedures on assignments
  • Works independently, manages multiple priorities and deliverables
  • Strong analytical and written and oral communication skills.
  • Data synthesis, analysis, and presentation skills
  • Attention to detail in proofing materials, tracking projects and grants
  • Project management experience and savvy
