Operations Consultant

Background of this search:

The Vice-Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge (VPS) at the Inter-American Development Bank is currently looking for an operations consultant to work with VPS’ operational team, under the supervision of the VPS’ Sr. Advisor, to support in the quality assurance of the Vice-Presidency’s operational products.

The team’s mission:

VPS’ mission is to enhance the quality and relevance of financial and knowledge products and services that the Bank provides to borrowing countries.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct quality review of operational documents during the project approval phase to ensure that they meet quality standards of the Bank (including institutional/financial/economic analysis, project management tools, risk assessments and mitigation, definition of clear objectives, quantifiable and precise indicators, adequate monitoring and evaluation frameworks) and verifying that timing and contents are in compliance with the Procedures for Processing Sovereign Guaranteed Operations and with the Bank's Operational Policies.
  • Follow-up of sovereign guaranteed operations in the different approval instances and alerting of possible delays, providing recommendations, and producing analytical reports on the status of the operational program.
  • Provide support in guiding operational personnel on policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor portfolio review process to ensure development impact while maintaining compliance with IDB guidelines and policies.
  • Provide support in the review on Bank operational and corporate documents related to new (or modifications to existing) lending instruments, country strategies, operational program, among others.
  • Provide research and analysis on new and emerging operational areas; and provide continued support and advice in the identification of these areas.
  • Participate in a broad range of other activities providing research, technical and operational support for the Department, as requested by the supervisor.

What you’ll need:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: Master’s degree in economics, political science, finance, or related fields
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience. Previous experience working in similar functions in the Bank. Must have experience in supporting teams in quality assurance, preparation and supervision of projects financed by Multilateral Development Banks or international agencies
  • Languages: Fluency in Spanish and English required.
