The UNICEF Cox’s Bazar field office which is under the UNICEF Bangladesh Country office (BCO) is providing vital humanitarian and emergency response services to the L3 Rohingya emergency. Currently it is estimated that about 1.3 million Rohingya Refugees live in the camps in Cox’s Bazar. UNICEF Cox’s Bazar field office has a staff compliment of over 150 staff members, most of them new to UNICEF, as well as standby partners, consultants and UNVs. In addition to responding to the Rohingya emergency, UNICEF Cox’s Bazar is also implementing regular developmental programmes in the host communities within the 8 Upazzilas of Cox’s Bazar district.

Within this context, the warehouse assistant is expected to undertake activities pertaining to UNICEF’s warehouse management rules, regulation and best practices. The warehouse assistant will be responsible to undertake receipt, storage management and dispatch of UNICEF supplies to meet the program and emergencies need on timely manner. In addition, he/she will be providing support in the IP warehouse assessment and practically guiding the IPs’ warehouse staff in receipt, storage arrangement, dispatch and reporting on UNICEF supplies.

How can you make a difference?

  • Rapid and relevant responses and assistance provided to evolving warehouse needs with a priority on receiving, storing and dispatching supplies on time as requested.
  • Under the supervision of the warehouse officer/specialist, responsible for receipt and dispatch of all shipments within the warehouse in respect of UNICEF policies, guidelines, standard and procedures.
  • Inspect/verify the quantity and quality of supplies received against the purchase order or any other relevant documents.
  • Implement dispatch plans and organize loading and transportation of supplies to relevant consignee in consultation with warehouse in-charge, ensure proper waybills are issued for all the dispatches and inform the consignee of the upcoming deliveries.
  • Ensure the warehouse is well maintained and kept clean and neat. Ensure fire extinguishers are located in the appropriate area and their expiry dates are regularly monitored and action taken for replacement when required.
  • Ensure all stock movements are reflected in VISION, perform all the warehouse transaction for other UNICEF zonal office as instructed, records and supporting documents are maintained properly.
  • Carry out regular physical random checks of inventory, organize stock inventory for mid-year and year end year full stock count following instructions received from supervisors.
  • Maintaining a strong collaboration with logistics team and partners for stock inventory related matters and provide when necessary technical support /inputs to program planning.
  • Participates in providing support to national system on strengthening warehouse management and assist where necessary in providing technical and advisory support to partners and government counterparts on warehouse management issues.
  • Perform any other logistics related tasks.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of minimum Secondary Education preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.
  • A minimum of five years of practical work experience in supply, logistics, purchasing, contracting or other related fields is required.
  • Past work experience in emergency duty station.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
