Nutrition Specialist

Winrock International works with people around the world to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. Winrock is seeking experienced candidates for an anticipated USAID project that will accelerate resilient, agriculture-led economic growth and increase food security in Malawi. The project is expected to use a market systems approach to promote access to and adoption of improved inputs, market information, extension and advisory services, market access, and post-harvest services. The project will use innovative partnerships to incentivize private sector investment in modernizing Malawi’s agriculture sector while increasing production capacity and market access for nutrient-rich value chains and building resilience for smallholder farmers.


The Nutrition Specialist will provide expertise around the integration of nutrition sensitive agriculture, value chain, and market systems development activities and components into the overall program.


  • Provide thought leadership and technical direction in approaches to adapt, scale, and disseminate successful approaches to integrating nutrition outcomes and methodologies into agriculture and market systems development activities
  • Design and promote best practices in behavior change communications as it relates to integrating nutrition messaging and training in agricultural interventions
  • Identify, develop and nurture alliances with private sector actors, multi-national companies, and investors that can play a leadership role in championing and scaling private-sector led models for nutrition messaging, nutrition integration, and improving delivery of nutrition services and commodities to communities
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities to track activities and outcomes related to nutrition
  • Contribute to learning and knowledge management on best practices, successes, and lessons learned in creating pathways for improving nutrition
  • Coordinate with other projects and organizations working on nutrition, as appropriate


Education:           Master’s degree in a relevant field 


  • At least five (5) years of experience designing and implementing integrated agriculture and nutrition programming
  • Experience providing technical leadership and advisory support to teams in the area of nutrition-sensitive agriculture
  • Experience working on development programs funded by major donors, such as USAID
  • Experience in Malawi required


  • Excellent written and oral communication skill in English required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, including effectively contributing to joint planning and implementation of activities
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software (Microsoft)
