POSITION TITLE:               Intern, Counter-Trafficking in Persons and Safe Migration

TEAM:                                 Human Rights, Education, and Empowerment (HREE)

LOCATION:                         Arlington, VA with Remote start


Position Summary:

Winrock International is seeking applicants for the position of intern for Winrock’s Counter Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) programs. Winrock implements a diverse portfolio of counter-trafficking in persons and safe migration programs throughout Asia and Latin America/Caribbean that work to strengthen actions to promote rights-based migration and prevent trafficking in persons (TIP), reduce the vulnerability of at-risk populations to all forms of TIP, and expand and improve identification and assistance to trafficked persons.

The CTIP intern will be responsible for lending support to a variety of project management, technical, and proposal development activities. Tasks include organizing and coordinating positioning activities, providing support to grants, consultant and activity management, supporting processing of payments, preparation and proofreading of documents, conducting research on current and proposed projects, drafting and reviewing communications materials, and other logistical, operational, and programmatic support. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates who would like to learn more about the priority aspects of the CTIP project cycle, from planning, to executing activities, to monitoring and documenting results and progress and assessing the effectiveness of CTIP and safe migration.


The intern provides support to the Director, Human Trafficking and Safe Migration in knowledge management and positioning, including preparing and maintaining a repository of CTIP curricula and tools; drafting blog posts and other documents for internal and public consumption; and compiling and producing research reports and strategic planning documents. The intern will also support the Safe Migration in Central Asia and Thailand Counter Trafficking in Persons project in various technical, administrative, operational, and communications tasks.

This position requires a Russian speaker who is an energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented person with excellent communication, analytic, research, and writing and editing skills. The position is full-time for a period of six months and the candidate is required to be in the United States.

  • Provide technical and administrative support in planning, developing, and reviewing project activities and deliverables
  • Contribute to desk research, research analysis, manual and tool development, concept writing , and proposal development (preparation of capabilities statements, drafting and editing CVs, supporting recruitment efforts)
  • Contribute to, edit, and format project plans, tools, reports and communication materials highlighting the progress and impact of activities
  • Provide coordination and logistical support to execute project webinars, events and other interventions
  • Prepare and maintain a repository of CTIP curricula and tools
  • Draft blog posts and other documents for internal and public consumption
  • Attend relevant CTIP and migration external events and disseminate information to HREE team
  • Update and maintain project-specific SharePoint sites
  • Coordinate policy approvals with Winrock operation support units and assist with processing consultancy agreements and procurement processes and payments
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (international development, human rights, human trafficking, economics, and/or livelihoods development) required
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills required
  • Experience living and/or working in developing countries strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and research skills, demonstrated resourcefulness, and ability to solve problems creatively
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to demonstrate the highest level of ethical standards at all times
  • Proficiency in software supported by Winrock (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Russian is required
