We’re looking for a Senior Communications Specialist to help move our brand and impact to the next level. This role will work with our Executive Director and Communications agency to launch an exciting new Editorial Calendar system, translate our deep audience and stakeholder insights into a compelling narrative, and design best in class materials to support our innovative programs and plans. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with purpose, creative confidence, strong project management skills and a high degree of comfort with technology.

This 2-day per week position is available for the right team member with the option of working flexibly from home or from the Toronto office. The Senior Communications Specialist will be accountable to the Executive Director with responsibility to support Program Directors.


The ideal candidate is:

  • Experienced with designing creative campaign and program materials
  • Audience focussed and able to create compelling call to action messaging
  • Eager to finalize, launch and integrate a new Editorial Calendar System into Ashoka Canada’s day to day operations
  • Able to lead design and implementation of our communications plans
  • Analytic and able to leverage contact data base to optimize communications
  • Tech savvy
  • Organized, efficient and above all proactive!
  • A self-starter and strong team player
  • Able to problem solve independently and willing to seek support when needed
  • Bilingual, French and English (preferred but not required)

Role and responsibilities include:

  • Finalizing, launching and integrating the Editorial Calendar System
  • Developing a breakthrough narrative arc
  • Leading the design & implementation of communications materials across channels
  • Supporting proposal, program, presentation and report development with strong audience focused creative
  • Scoping new opportunities for improved reach and impact
  • Working with the Ashoka Canada and Global teams to make progress against our vision
  • Making suggestions to improve Ashoka systems and processes
