Position Title: M-Health Specialist / Developer

Reports to: MEQ Coordinator

Location: Ángel Albino Corzo, Chiapas - negotiable

Employment type: Full time – volunteer

Contract duration: 1 year

Position Overview:

Manage the portfolio of mobile data collection projects in CommCare.

  • Develop and update mobile data collection tools that meet Compañeros En Salud's needs.
  • Implementation of the devices in rural communities, training community workers and clinic staff for their use, monitoring data quality, and responding to user feedback on the operation of the applications.
  • Collaboration in the integration of CommCare applications with the electronic medical record (EMR) of the health centers where CES works together with the Information Technology (IT) team of CES and Strategic Information Systems (SIS) of PIH Boston.


  1. Develop new mobile applications in CommCare for data collection according to the needs of the programs.

  • Support and needs assessment with program coordinators
  • Design of Collection solutions for program coordinators
  • Development of solutions to meet program needs

  1. Update already developed CommCare applications.

Around 30% working time

  • Service, support, improvements and updates of CommCare
  • Stay informed of all software updates introduced by the developers, Dimagi, in order to make the most of the app
  • Feedback meetings on the use of data collection tools by the final users and making modifications to the applications.


  1. Collaborate with PIH Boston's CES and SIS IT team in integrating EMR with CommCare applications.

  • Collaborate with teams to obtain the correct data registration d in the applications for use in PowerBi or other platforms.

  1. Training CES’s team on the use of m-HEALTH Applications

Around 10% working time

  • Prepare capacity-building material and workshops for use and development of applications
  • Train community health workers, clinic staff and other target populations in the use of the applications.
  • Quality evaluation of data registered by users

Depending on the activities and needs, the responsibilities can be adapted according to the specific projects conferred by the immediate leader.



  • Bachelor´s degree in System Developer studies, Data analytics, Applied Data Science or related (or its equivalent to one year experience)


  • Desirable experience working with mobile electronic data collection systems
  • Desirable knowledge in general medical concepts and
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments (international development projects)

Technical Skills

  • Advanced level in Spanish (oral and written communication)
  • Advanced level in computational skills
  • Desirable: some experience with advanced data analytic tools and other applied tools for International Development Projects (ArcGIS, R, Stata, PowerBI, Tableau, Project Cycle Management)
