Job Description

The Incumbent will provide research services for the Child Trafficking Prevalence Study being conducted by IOM, with funding from the United States Department of State Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, in fulfilment of the Child Protection Compact between the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the United States of America.

Role Requirements:

I. Assist in the development of interview and/or survey schedules

II. Contact potential respondents/interviewees to introduce/explain study objectives and arrange interviews

III. Participate in pilot testing of study research instruments

IV. Conduct and record virtual (telephone and online) interviews with respondents/interviewees, in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data collection procedures, and documentation standards

V. Enter data into a pre-established database using the provided devices, tools and software for subsequent analysis

VI. Follow up with respondents/interviewees, as appropriate, to resolve problems or clarify data collected

VII. Provide logistical support for the research process, as necessary

Technical competencies:

▪ Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and data collection software

▪ Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively tailor communication style to suit different age and social groups

▪ Commitment to high quality research


▪ Excellent organizational skills

▪ Excellent problem resolution skills

▪ Good interpersonal and multi-tasking skills with the ability to work well under pressure

▪ Ability to work with minimal supervision

▪ Ability to work collaboratively, and as part of a team

▪ Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

▪ Sound integrity and judgement

Qualifications and Experience

▪ University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Sociology or a related field from an accredited university

▪ Knowledge and experience with different research methodologies, and data collection software (experience working in a research environment is advantageous)

▪ Experience in conducting surveys and interviews

▪ Experience working with children, especially experience working with children on sensitive subject matters such as child exploitation and abuse is an advantage
