OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Regional Director and Representative, and direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO ROSA, the successful consultant/consulting firm will develop a campaign videos which contain various messages including young people’s aspirations, opportunities, challenges and projects as well as messages from third parties endorsing the interventions.

Long Description

The Contractor will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  1. Gather footage on youth and leaders of youth organisations expressing their views on issues relating to youth development, challenges and how they can be solved, also lobbying for support towards the two UNESCO/SARDC initiative for the benefit of young people in the region
  2. Gather footage from UNESCO, SARDC, Government officials and other Civil Society Actors endorsing the initiatives, calling on donors and stakeholders to put their efforts together to support youth development and social innovations in the region
  3. Produce 2 high quality videos, with maximum 2 minutes each, including animation and sign language interpretation. The video should be in a format that can be used on online platforms including social media and YouTube.
Objective of the call for Consultancy

Against the given backdrop, UNESCO is seeking the services of a video production company or individual filmmakers to produce 2 campaign videos – one featuring the partners’ views; and one featuring examples of youth’s initiatives on the ground – to be used on online platforms to raise awareness among donors and other stakeholders on the need to support youth engagement and social innovations and create a platform for resource mobilisation. The videos are expected to achieve the following:

  1. Animate project concepts so as to appeal to potential funding partners;
  2. Compile and articulate examples of Youth Social innovation in some SADC countries;
  3. Incorporate youth voices in resource mobilisation efforts following wide-spread consultations;
  4. Raise awareness of the youth interventions set to be implemented;
  5. Ignite an online campaign which will spin off to other platforms for greater visibility;
  6. Demonstrate buy-in and interest by a wide range of targeted stakeholders including the youth, government institutions and the SADC Secretariat;
  7. Highlight the timely relevance of the intervention/s from an intellectual standpoint.

Methodology

Considering the regional scope of the campaign, as well as the lockdown situation and induced movement restrictions, the Consultant/ Consulting firm shall prepare a guide for participants to record their own videos and ensure that all videos are received in good quality, and compiled into the 2 final videos. UNESCO will provide a concept note with a draft script which the Consultant/Consulting firm will elaborate, as well as a list of youth organisations to engage with.

Required Qualifications

The following qualifications and skills are mandatory:

  • Advanced academic degree in a related field - preferably Social Sciences, Development Studies, Sociology & Gender
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications
  • At least 5 years professional experience in one or more of the following fields: Social development, Gender, Youth.
  • Demonstrated fund raising and resource mobilization abilities
  • Good analytical
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of one or more languages of the SADC Region
