The UNESCO Regional Office for GCC and Yemen is engaged in a range of projects and activities in the field of education, culture, communication and sciences.
In December 2019, UNESCO received a fund from the United Nations Peacebuilding for a project titled “Empowering Yemeni youth towards peace: ensuring access to information and participation” managed by the Communication and Information Unit. Through an inclusive and participatory approach, this 18-months project aims to empower the youth with the skills, knowledge and tools to create information, content and dialogue in support of the peace-building process. The interventions the project aim to reconnect youth in Yemen with the peace-building process, by raising their voices, fostering the free flow of information and having two-way communication.
This will be done by improving access to information for youth on the peacebuilding process so they can increase their knowledge and make informed decisions. In parallel, the project wants to also provide young Yemenis with safe spaces of dialogue, including social media, online surveys, youth debates and radio programmes to voice their needs and opinions with decision-makers and duty bearers.
The Local Project Manager will be responsible to implement the project and will undertake management and coordination tasks to ensure the project’s activities are successfully being implemented as per the established work plan.
Under the overall authority of the Director of the Office and in close cooperation with staff in the Communication and Information Sector at Headquarters and in Field Offices, the Local Project Manager will perform the following responsibilities:
Monitor contracts and maintain relationships with implementing partners covering a range of expertise required to successfully implement the project in respect to UNESCO rules and regulations;
Monitor the implementation of the various project activities to ensure achievement of the project objectives and outputs in compliance with the established work plan;
Organize stakeholders consultations to facilitate the development of the project content strategy on peace-building, the themes for activity implementation, and the detailed project plans;
Organize policy dialogue and capacity-building workshops and training with the active participation of youth;
Participate in advocacy and public events to enhance outreach and visibility of the project;
Coordinate with the implementing partners to map and establish the list of beneficiaries of the various project activities;
Organize activities with community radios, in line with the project document;
Prepare a range of reports to highlight the project developments including briefings, donor progress reports, presentations, and others.
Facilitate information sharing amongst stakeholders and ensure regular coordination with governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations in the execution of the project;
Participate in field visits in the related areas of the project maintaining a direct dialogue with beneficiaries. Prepare and submit field visit reports including programmatic recommendations and observations;
Provide support in managing project budget and expenditures, and work in close collaboration with the administrative assistant to ensure payment requests are processed;
Contribute to the overall communication and visibility efforts of the project (website, production of awareness-raising materials, community management on social media, online communication campaigns, etc.).
Work closely and contribute to supervising the monitoring and evaluation officer for tasks related to the reporting on performance indicators.

University degree (BA or equivalent) preferably in Journalism, International Affairs, Political Science or similar discipline relevant to international development.
A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in the field of project management and implementation, programme and policy.
At least 1 year experience in the MENA region and/or international level would be an advantage;
Work experience with UN and/or international development agency will be an asset.
Strong interpersonal and networking skills;
Good analytical and organizational skills;
Ability to coordinate and facilitate communication with teams including the ability to contribute to the effective implementation of projects and policy discussions;
Very good written and oral communication skills;
Very good computing skills including Microsoft Office applications specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Very good reporting skills
Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Arabic.
